Recycle Used Motor Oil -- It's the Law! The S.C. Solid Waste Policy and Management Act prohibits the disposal of motor oil in municipal solid waste landfills and into sewers, drainage systems, septic tanks, surface water, or groundwater. Thankfully, Midlands residents who change their own oil have many options for recycling motor oil. Lexington County accepts used motor oil, oil filters, and oil bottles at 12 convenient collection and recycling centers. Richland County offers 11 drop off locations for used motor oil and oil filters. Through May 31 as part of the Great American Cleanup, Firestone Complete Auto Care locations in the City of Columbia will accept scrap tires, used oil and car batteries for recycling. Firestone requests that individuals call before bringing a large quantity of tires, used oil or batteries. Participating locations include:
